Oblique Strategies is a deck of cards created by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt after thinking about approaches to their own work as artist and musician. Each card presents a question, dilemma, or new way of attacking the work you are doing as an artist. By drawing a card, you are given the chance to rethink your process. There is also a Mac widget for the cards here. They are similar to the video below.

From the Jillian Tamaki Sketchbook blog: In order for a piece to be successful, you must communicate your idea to the viewer. The viewer should be charmed, intrigued, empathetic, repulsed, provoked. SOMETHING.
They should be touched enough to want to cut the illustration out of the magazine. How you choose to connect with viewers is up to you. There is no right or wrong, just successful and unsuccessful. There is space in illustration for personal vision and passions (in fact, illustration usually sucks when they’re absent), but we can’t forget about “the viewer” and our role as communicator. Word Association Doodles
Person A draws something. Anything. A shape, a bridge, an amorphous blob; whatever strikes A's fancy. Person B then draws something of their own, influenced by the previous drawing. Sometimes it may be the shape; sometimes it might be the subject matter. Sometimes it might just be one little piece that looks like it could be a piece from something else. What do you see?
Give a photocopied sheet of ink blotched paper similar to that of the first picture (note: coloured paper works better).
Using coloured pencils, ask students to find images within the smudges and blotches by rotating the paper etc.
